Ja'ara, deported to Ireland following the siege of the Nativity Church in 2002, said the fighters trapped inside the church were contacted by both the late Palestinian president Yasser Arafat and Hamas' spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmad Yassin. He said both leaders explained the conditions of the end to the siege on the church, and asked that the men decide their course of action.
