RISHON LETZION, Israel (AP) - Members of Israel's Labor Party voted for a new leader Tuesday, and front-runner Amram Mitzna made an election day promise to withdraw unilaterally from the Gaza Strip if he becomes prime minister.

For the first time since the start of the intifada two years ago, the Israel Defense Forces struck at the Palestinian Preventive Security mechanism in Gaza, using helicopter gunships, tanks to fire at the buildings and then troops to raid the headquarters.
