Two Palestinians have been killed in a shootout with Israeli soldiers in the northern West Bank, sources on both sides say. Aljazeera's correspondent quoted the Islamic Jihad as announcing the deaths of two of its activists, including a leader of al-Quds Brigades in the West Bank, Nidal Abu Saada, in a military operation launched by Israeli soldiers on Tuesday in Araba village, south of Jenin. Four other Palestinians were injured during clashes after 20 Israeli military vehicles stormed into the village and laid siege to a building. An Israeli army spokeswoman said that Tuesday's incident in which the two Palestinian fighters were killed also caused an unknown number of Israeli casualties. more..

Settlers who illegally commandeered Palestinian shops in Hebron's wholesale market completed their evacuation of the site on overnight Monday in accordance with a deal made with the state under which they would voluntarily leave their homes and be permitted to return legally later on, Israel Radio reported. Israel Defense Forces officers and representatives of Jewish settlers in Hebron who oversaw the evacuation confirmed that the settlers had cleared the market. The three houses, which belong to the families of Mousa and Salah, were still under construction. Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz yesterday decided to postpone the evacuation of the settlement outpost of Amona, near Ofra, for another two weeks. Mofaz said he made the decision due to a petition to the High Court of Justice filed by Amona residents, which the court has agreed to hear next Wednesday, and the Palestinian Authority elections, which are scheduled for January 25. Suicide bomber blows up near IDF force in Jenin; no injuries

Two senior wanted Islamic Jihad militants, including one suicide bomber, were killed on Thursday afternoon during an Israel Defense Forces raid in the West Bank town of Jenin. There were no casualties among the IDF troops. IDF and Border Police special units carrying out an operation to arrest Islamic Jihad wanted militants surrounded a house where a militant was believed to be hiding. One armed militant got out of the house and was shot dead by the troops. The bomber then got out of the house and activated an explosive device. Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz ordered on Tuesday that work be resumed on three sections of the separation fence in Jerusalem that have been frozen by order of the High Court of Justice. Mekorot Water Company cleared a chlorine gas installation near the southern city of Ashkelon over the weekend due to fears that Qassam rockets would hit the dangerous gas stockpile intended for water chlorination, Army Radio reported Sunday. The radio said that any damage caused to the sensitive installation may lead to severe environmental damage and may even endanger human lives. The Shin Bet security service and the police arrested last month Jirias Jirias, 57, from the western Galilee village of Psuta, for allegedly being recruited by Iranian intelligence during a stay in Cyprus. Ala al-Hams was held on suspicion of kidnapping three Britons last week. Infantry troops on a mission to arrest the man, suspected of being a weapons dealer, searched for him at his home and then at a store he owns. At the store they saw him armed with a Kalachnikov rifle, and shot him dead. According to the IDF, the man was wearing a bullet-proof vest and a helmet during the shooting. The Defense Ministry has terminated the lease with the Hebron municipality that enabled the Palestinian merchants to work in the city's wholesale market. This means that the merchants from the wholesale market will not be able to return to their shops even if the Israel Defense Forces does evict the settlers squatting there.
