To history's right side A Letter to Burlington Free Press    April 1, 2001 The Israeli army continues demolishing houses of Palestinians in the territories the Israelis occupy in defiance of international law. As an American Jew, I am sickened by these brutal acts, along with the denial to the Palestinians of their right to earn a livehood, their to medical care, the malicious maiming with bullets to to eyes and legs, etc, and the whole catalogue of barities and acts of war that characterize this illegal military occupation-- which have escalated in recent days. The porgoms committed by the the Israelis claim vastly more victims that the pogroms we Jews suffered in TsaristRussia. That these cruel acts should be subsidized and encouraged by the united states policy is a terrible thing. It is incontrovertible fact, verifiable in the works of Zionist historians and in the Israeli press, that from the beginning, the history of the Israeli state has been characterized by vicious ethnic cleansing, and that the Israeli policy of apartheid in he West Bank and Gaza is comparable to that of the old South Africa or Mississippi. ... Let us do all we can to set our country on the right side of history and to serve notice on the Israeli state that the united states will no longer tolerate the military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, and will no longer provide Israel with helicopter gunships and other means of carrying out their acts -- or any aid whatever -- until it has ended its occupation, in compliance with the international law.
