The wall
By Peter Lackowski, Burlington Free Press 10/16/2003
The wall that is now being built by Israel is not just a separation of the two peoples. In fact, it winds through Palestinian areas, cutting off and surrounding villages. Palestinian homes outside the walled areas are demolished to make way for Israeli settlements and roads. The walls prevent Palestinians from leaving their neighborhoods, making economic, social, and cultural life nearly impossible. By building the wall where it is, by announcing 600 more housing units in the West Bank, by assassinations and other provocations, the Israeli government has demonstrated that they are not interested in any road map to peace. Their policy seems to be huge prison camps, where inmates will be given a choice between misery and exile.
