If
war begins watch Israel
By William Coil
If we are dragged into an unnecessary war with Iraq, one of the
countless nightmares ahead will be the plight of the Palestinian
people.
Israel, run by Sharon’s right wing regime, has managed to get away
with countless war crimes, breeches of international law and violations
of U.N. resolutions through the use of a massive public relations
campaign. The Israeli peace movement goes unreported both here and
in Israel.
Unfortunately, the illegal occupation of Palestinian lands and
the brutal domination of the Palestinian people is not the only
objective of Sharon’s government. The “final solution,” is to drive
those last Palestinians from the remainder of their land.
To hide a crime of this magnitude, propaganda and news censorship
will not suffice. The Israeli’s need a distraction to avert the
world’s attention, and a U.S. war against Iraq will accomplish this.
Benjamin Netanyahu, then Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister, quoted
in the Israeli journal, Hotam (November 24, 1989) told students
at Bar Ilan University, “Israel should have exploited the repression
of the demonstrations in China when world attention focused on that
country, to carry out mass expulsions among Arabs of the territories.”
